Accreditation & CPD Points

On completion of the course, participates are asked to complete a short online exam, open-book online of approx 15 questions. Upon passing participates will receive their Mental Health First Aiders Certificate which is valid for another 3 year period.

After which, participants will be required to attend a full 2 day session, as 6 years would have passed from their original training date.

If participants do not wish to complete the exam they are presented with a certificate of completion with CPD points awarded regardless of exam completion.

Most professionals can claim attendance towards Continuing Professional Development (CPD) within their industry body. Please check with your relevant industry body or BLLC if you are unsure of allocation points.

A note on Virtual Delivery- 

​

The Instructor-led virtual sessions are live meetings conducted over the internet using video conferencing software (your Instructor will provide a link for you to the platform they use).

As a participant you will need a quiet location where you will have privacy.
You can attend via your computer or tablet as you will need to be able to read the screen easily. The Instructor needs to be able to see and hear you for you to participate in the training therefore access to a camera and a microphone for the duration of the session is mandatory. If your computer doesn’t have a microphone or camera built in you can still attend via your computer but will need to be also on camera using your smart phone or tablet at the same time.

Course participants

• The highest leave of professional accredited facilitation
   

• A copy of the most current Standard MHFA Manual
   

• Additional industry-relevant  supplement manuals and resources- where required
   

• Registration and management of accreditation for all participants- including tracking of 3-year refresher requirements for full MHFA courses
   

• Ongoing post-training support and MHFA counselling for MHFA officers
   

• A Certificate of Completion &/or accreditation

Components:

Course Component 1 
Self-paced interactive eLearning (5-7 hours)

The eLearning course component presents an overview of mental health problems and mental health crises.
Developing mental health problems covered include:

• Depression

• Anxiety problems

• Psychosis

• Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered:
 

• Suicidal thoughts and behaviours

• Non-suicidal self-injury

• Panic attacks

• Traumatic events

• Severe psychotic states

• Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use

• Aggressive behaviour​

Delivery:

Course Component 2 

Instructor-led component delivered either via videoconferencing.

• Instructor-led video conferencing (2 x 2.5 hour sessions)​

Course Component 2 follows the completion of Course Component 1  – eLearning. Course Component 2 provides course participants with an opportunity to revise content covered in the self-paced eLearning program and to consolidate the application of this content with the development of practical skills in a group environment.

Course Component 2 provides participants with the opportunity to:
 

• Revise the eLearning content and the MHFA Action Plan

• Clarify any points of uncertainty remaining after completion of the eLearning modules

• Apply the MHFA Action Plan to relevant scenarios

• Discuss and reflect 'a where to from now' in using mental health first aid skills

• Develop a self-care plan to maintain good mental health.

Both course components of the course are to be completed within a 3-month period.

The cost of the eLearning course (Course Component 1 is $88 including GST and is available for purchase directly through the MHFA Australia website or may be purchased via BLLC for groups as part of a total course price). The eLearning course component price includes a hard copy MHFA Standard Course Manual. Postage cost for the Manual is additional.
