MHFA CORE COURSES
Standard Mental Health First Aid
Course overview

Course participants learn about the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Common points of interest:

The Youth MHFA course follows a similar structure to the Standard version but takes a deeper dive into youth-specific challenges. It provides extended coverage on topics like eating disorders, self-injury, and suicide, while the Standard course places more emphasis on substance use.

Who Can Enroll?

There are no prerequisites—just like a physical first aid course, no prior experience or qualifications are required to participate. However, please note that this is not a therapy or support group. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an intensive training program designed to equip you with the skills to provide mental health first aid and understand self-care strategies in more depth. Due to the sensitive nature of the content, we recommend that participants feel emotionally resilient before enrolling.
